Wayland's ivi-shell has become the standard for window management within IVI usecases, used in AGL upstream as well as in many products and other automotive platforms.

The IVI shell development has been held well by its current maintainers, however its roots in an X11-centric window management system are clear, and a new approach may be necessary in the age of fluid interactive HMI. How output remoting should be supported is another key consideration.

This session will outline some of the challenges IVI shell set out to solve, some of the usecases AGL now needs solved, and a proposed roadmap to enabling fluid, beautiful, and reliable, products based on the AGL platform and Wayland upstream.
